Our Story
Founded by husband and wife Carlo and Mia Tonin, BY TONIN was created to bring a more considered approach to everyday jewellery, combining thoughtful design, quality materials, and longevity.
In 2022, a concussion led Mia to slow down and return to her art practice. From there, the early ideas for BY TONIN began to take shape and eventually became a shared vision
Our own experience made us question what everyday jewellery could be. Too often, there were compromises — jewellery that tarnished, plating that quickly lost its finish, trends that came and went, and prices that didn’t always reflect the quality. The constant release of new styles and endless options made choosing a piece feel more transactional than personal.
We wanted to do things differently. Instead of endless collections, we create a considered range of timeless pieces, made from high-quality materials, released in small batches, and designed to be worn well beyond a single season.
In 2025, those ideas became reality with the launch of BY TONIN. Based in Auckland, New Zealand, we continue to design collections centred on thoughtful design, quality, and longevity.
Mia leads the creative vision, drawing on her background in art and design to shape every collection. Carlo brings ideas to life through strategy, systems, and problem-solving, ensuring each part of the business is as considered as the jewellery itself.
