Our 18k Gold Vermeil collection is the ultimate expression of demi-fine excellence. Crafted to exceed international standards, BY TONIN Vermeil Pieces begins with a 925 sterling silver core, reinforced with double silver plating for a flawless finish. The brilliance is protected by a rare Palladium barrier and a minimum of 2.5 microns of 18k gold. The final touch is our Nano-Ceramic E-Coating—an invisible, electrophoretic shield that seals the gold against moisture and oxidation. This is gold jewellery engineered for the intentional life.

Is the quality different between your Standard Gold and Gold Vermeil?

The technical foundation is identical.

Both collections use our signature 6-layer process, including the recycled silver base, the Palladium barrier, and the Nano-Ceramic E-Coating. The only difference is the thickness of the final 18k gold layer: 1 micron for our standard pieces and 2.5 microns for our Vermeil pieces.

Why do you use 6 layers for standard plating?

Most "standard" jewellery uses only one or two layers of plating directly over base metals. By applying six layers over 925 sterling silver, we ensure that even our most accessible pieces are hypoallergenic, tarnish-resistant, and built to withstand the rituals of daily life.

What makes the Palladium layer so important?

Palladium acts as the "security guard" of your jewellery. It prevents the silver molecules in the base from moving into the gold layer. Without this barrier, gold jewellery can quickly turn grey or dull. By including Palladium in every piece, we ensure your 18k gold keeps its warm, radiant hue for much longer.

Will my Gold Vermeil piece tarnish?

Because we use a rare Palladium barrier to stop silver migration, our vermeil is exceptionally tarnish-resistant. While all gold can eventually soften with years of wear, the 925 sterling silver core ensures the piece remains precious. Our 6-layer engineering is designed specifically to prevent the "greying" common in lesser-quality gold jewellery.

Can I wear my 18k Gold Vermeil pieces alongside solid gold jewellery?

Yes. Because we use 18k gold for our final micron layer, the colour and lustre are identical to solid 18k gold. Many of our customers seamlessly mix their BY TONIN vermeil with solid gold heirlooms, as our craftsmanship ensures the gold keeps its rich, warm tone without fading to a pale or greyish hue.

The Engineering of 18k Gold Vermeil

At BY TONIN, we go beyond standard plating. Our 18k gold vermeil is defined by a rigorous 6-layer process. Starting with a heavy recycled sterling silver base, we apply double silver reinforcement followed by a rare Palladium barrier. While often omitted in jewellery due to cost, Palladium is essential for preventing the silver from migrating into the gold, stopping tarnish before it begins. Finished with a thick 2.5-micron 18k gold layer, our vermeil offers a deep, lasting lustre.

Advanced Nano-Ceramic Protection

The final step in our technical process is the application of a Nano-Ceramic E-Coating. This electrophoretic shield acts as a durable, nickel-free barrier against sweat, moisture, and daily oxidation. By sealing the precious metal layers with this advanced technology, we provide our 18k gold vermeil and gold-plated designs with a level of durability that far exceeds industry standards.
